Christmas is a big time for retailers and manufacturers, so there is no wonder why we see some of the biggest advertising campaigns of the year around that time. Naturally this creates significant competition, particularly in the UK where Christmas campaigns are often referred to as the ‘UK Superbowl’ in advertising. Its tempting to tap into an existing consumer base with clip licensing of TV show and movies, just like the 6 featured here.

Kris Kringle meets Bieber, Swift and Trump

Year: 2012
Client: Macy’s
Creative Agency: JWT New York
TV Show/Movie: Miracle on 34th Street

Miracle on 34th Street is one of the most iconic Christmas movies to have ever been made. The 1947 film was based around Kris Kringle, who stands in as the in-store Santa Claus at Macy’s flagship New York store on 34th street. So it was quite fitting to bring Kris Kringle back to a modern day Macy’s store for star studded minute long spot, with appearances by Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, Donald Trump and Martha Stewart.
