The world of licensing is a realm where creativity and innovation know no bounds. In 2023, David Born, Founder and Director of Born Licensing, and Amber Cheung, Senior Licensing Executive, have etched their names into the history of licensing by making it into the coveted Brands Untapped 100 list. The Brands Untapped 100 is a celebration of 100 designers, product developers and creatives in the brand licensing industry who have excelled over the last 12 months; with their remarkable contributions and outstanding achievements, David and Amber are contributing to redefining the licensing landscape.

It’s been another impressive year for Born Licensing and David Born. 2023 saw Born spearhead research into the effectiveness of using IP and characters in advertising creative. The results of this research have already had a profound influence on the way creative agencies view the use of IP and famous characters in advertising – even inspiring PGA TOUR Superstore to license a character from Happy Gilmore for their latest campaign. “David has changed the way advertisers think about licensing characters and IP,” said one fan of his work, adding: “Not only is he the leader in this field – he created the field!”

Amber Cheung, Senior Licensing Executive

Amber Cheung plays a critical role throughout the creative development and production of Born Licensing's advertising campaigns. She’s managed the creative development for some of the biggest IP-driven campaigns of the last few years, including Asda's ‘Have Your Elf a Merry Christmas’ campaign. It was the most emotionally effective Christmas campaign ever tested by System1, and marked the first time Elf has ever been licensed in the advertising space.
