Paddington comes from Peru, where he was raised by his Aunt Lucy. He was sent to London to begin a new life, and arrived at Paddington Station with just a small suitcase, an old red bush hat, and a label reading, “Please look after this bear. Thank you.” The Brown family welcomed him into their home at 32 Windsor Gardens, naming him after the place his story began. He is extremely kind and polite, always approaching the world with good manners and good intentions - though often not without mishaps! He loves marmalade - especially in sandwiches kept under his hat “for emergencies” - and sharing elevenses with his friend Mr Gruber. He also celebrates two birthdays (just like the King), on June 25th and December 25th.
For almost 70 years, British-born writer Michael Bond has delighted readers all over the world with his stories about Paddington, the bear from Peru, famous for his love of marmalade. The kindness and humour in the stories appeal to children and adults alike, ensuring Paddington's enduring popularity from one generation to the next.
Since then, Paddington’s adventures have been adapted several times for television, and in 2014 Paddington made his debut on the big screen, followed by Paddington 2 in 2017 and Paddington in Peru in 2024 and internationally throughout 2025. Together, the Paddington film franchise has grossed over $700 million at the global box office. The movies are produced by STUDIOCANAL, Europe’s leader in production, distribution and international sales of feature films and series, part of CANAL+ Group, a major player in the creation and distribution of content worldwide. In 2020, a brand-new Paddington TV series for a pre-school audience, The Adventures of Paddington, launched on Nickelodeon, going on to win two Daytime Emmy Awards.
