david born discusses Character and IP licensing on tom christmann’s ‘lost in found’ podcast

Born Licensing CEO David Born sits down with Tom Christmann, Executive Creative Director of Catch+Release, to discuss Character and IP Licensing

Catch+Release is a found content curation and licensing company. They find the perfect shots for ad campaigns as well as handle the outreach, negotiate payments, and secure releases. Hosted by Tom Christmann, ECD of Catch+Release, the Lost in Found podcast brilliantly explores the licensing of any content found online - whether that be TikToks, Tweets, customer reviews, drone shots, digital art, unboxings, or even full-length feature films. It’s a podcast for smart marketers who want to use found content to tell brand stories that are more authentic, more diverse, and more immediate than ever. On the podcast, Tom speaks to the strategists who are using found content to discover insights and Creatives using it as a springboard to co-create with audiences

David Born was thrilled to be invited on to Tom’s podcast to discuss licensing famous characters and IP from film and TV. Within the podcast David Born reveals the character he most wants to work with (clue - it’s fluffy and has long ears), as well as providing tips and insights into the process behind licensing A-List characters. One of the useful tips that David offers Creatives is to think big…!

“We always encourage creatives to let their mind run wild. I really don’t care how crazy the script is. We encourage them to stay as true to the characters as you possibly can because it’s in everyone’s best interest…but that doesn’t mean that you can’t put them in really unusual situations. Actually, the biggest success we’ve had is when you take a character and put it in a new scenario and people are just so interested to see that - like He-Man and Skeletor dancing together to Dirty Dancing - who would have ever thought of that!”

On the podcast David shares his experience of working on some of their most successful campaigns including He-Man and Skeletor for MoneySuperMarket by Mother London, Ninja Turtles, SpongeBob and Scooby-Doo for Uber by Kamp Grizzly, Angry Birds for GEICO by The Martin Agency, and most recently Buddy the Elf for Asda by Havas.
