GEICO GOES HEAD TO HEAD WITH ANGRY BIRDS IN NEW AD

Born Licensing secures license for Angry Birds in new commercial by The Martin Agency

We’ve been busy working on something special with GEICO and our friends at The Martin Agency. The latest spot by GEICO will have you thinking of safeguarding your window, your planters on the patio, and anything else that might not be bolted down. Why?

Because everybody's favourite flightless flock has found its way back to your screens! That’s right, Angry Birds, the mobile game characters developed by Rovio Entertainment are out of your hands and coming in hot for GEICO’s latest bundling campaign!

This is the third time GEICO has worked with animated characters this year coming off the heels of working with Disney’s Animal (‘There’s an Animal in the Attic’) and Hanna-Barbera Animation’s Yogi Bear (‘Yogi Bear Joins the BBQ’). This time the Angry Birds are here destroying pots, disturbing the neighbours, and generally causing havoc to remind you that GEICO makes bundling your insurance easy.

Director of Born Licensing writes: “I’m a huge fan of GEICO’s campaigns and have wanted to work with them since I started the company back in 2014. GEICO and The Martin Agency truly understand the power of using famous characters in advertising and it was a joy working with them and Rovio Entertainment on this hilarious spot.”

The Approvals Process

We worked closely with Rovio Entertainment, providing pantone guides, sizing charts, and other references to The Martin Agency to ensure the Angry Birds were brought to life as accurately as possible. It was a pleasure working with Rovio Entertainment who were fully supportive of The Martin Agency’s creative vision and really added to the creative with suggestions that their fans will love - such as the inclusion of a green pig planter in reference to the Angry Birds’ mortal enemies! (Yes, the planter was even painted in the exact pantone as the Green Pigs from Angry Birds.)

The Launch

The campaign launched during the widely viewed 2021 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade – the first parade with spectators since 2019. The airing of the parade has been described by NBC as their ‘Super Bowl for family viewing’ so it was a perfect pairing for GEICO and Angry Birds. The launch was supported with social on both GEICO’s and Angry Birds’ channels

This campaign is a great example of bespoke animation being created for a project. Thanks to our experience in managing the approval process for large campaigns the process was smooth and straight forward. We’re thrilled with the outcome and can’t wait to see what characters GEICO has in store next….!
